Ah, the tale of my fencing journey began in the most unexpected way about 10 years ago. Picture this: my friend and I were on a quest to shed some kgs (body weight), but we wanted to do it in a way that didn't involve the dreaded gym, soul-crushing diets, or the monotonous grind of jogging. I quickly discovered that fencing was not only a blast but also a fantastic workout that combined physical resilience with technical skills and mental focus. Legends Fencing is truly the only fencing club in Singapore designed with adult learners in mind. Learning fencing as an adult is a whole different ball game compared to kids. While children learn by mimicking repetitive moves, adults are constantly asking "why" and seeking to understand the rationale behind each move. For adults, Legends Fencing is the perfect place to master the art of fencing epee. Imagine a place where sweat and laughter mix in harmony – yep, that's Legends Fencing! Training at Legends Fencing is like stepping into a fencing paradise! The place is ultra-modern and contemporary, equipped with professional gear and, most importantly, a top-notch aircon that keeps us cool while we duel. 🥶

I never expected that a casual decision to try something new would lead me into the world of fencing – but that’s exactly what happened, thanks to Legends Fencing Club. I came to the Club out of sheer curiosity to explore something new and different. Coincidently, my trial session happened on the same day as the Women’s Épée final at the 2024 Olympics –an Asian fencer, down 1:7, fought her way to Olympic gold. Something clicked! Fencing, to me, isn’t just about physical strength. It is a thinking sport – training me on strategy, focus, mental resilience, and the patience for right timing and right distance. You also need to read the opponents, not just their body language, but also their habits, rhythm, and intentions. The awareness and skills have spilled over into my life beyond the strip. I find myself more observant, more present, and more resilient when things get tough.

I choose to start fencing because it's a challenging sport and I enjoy challenging myself in life. I chose Legends Fencing Club because it is the one fencing club in Singapore that caters to adults. So far, I'm having a great experience learning epee. I definitely feel positive progression over the months of training, all thanks to the expert guidance from the Legends coaches, and the many enthusiastic veterans and experienced fencers at the club who are always ready and willing to share invaluable tips and knowledge. You will never feel alone as you embark on your fencing journey! I also enjoy the sweet location of the club that enables me to go for a good run in the heart of the city before or after lessons... plus the shower facility at the club ensures that I always feel clean and fresh after a good training!

I started fencing as a way to keep myself healthy and fit, while not getting bored doing so. Fencing has the perfect combo. And I chose Legend for the camaradie of the fellow adult fencers, and also proximity to my home and workplace. Sparring with the fencers at Legends is a different experience from other clubs in Singapore and the region too as there aren’t any clubs that cater to competitive adult fencers. Sparring with the fencers at Legends draws the cerebral side out of you more. I enjoy the strong and welcoming community of fellow fencers and environment at the club. I appreciate the deepened friendships at the club, especially during overseas competitions. I feel that I am being supported morally by peers and buddies of my age group.

I was looking for a different kind of activity to stay active, and I chose Legends Fencing because it's a club catering only to adult learners. My fencing journey so far has been very interesting, and I am motivated to constantly improve so that I can enjoy this sport in the long term. When it comes to what I enjoy most about training at Legends, it’s everything – the facilities, the community, and the great coaches! I have experienced some positive mental changes. In fencing, we have to strategise and not just blindly lunge at our opponent. It's a lot of thinking and anticipating, and this has helped train my patience too. I would definitely recommend joining Legends Fencing, for the great environment that makes it especially pleasant for adult students.

I'd always been curious about fencing and its rich history. For a long time, I put off trying it for various reasons (and excuses!) but in 2025, I finally decided to take the plunge and start my fencing journey. I searched for fencing clubs in Singapore and came across Legends Fencing. What really stood out about Legends was how welcoming they are to adults and their lesson times which fit a working adult's schedule. That made it easy to choose them! I absolutely love learning the technical skills and strategies – it's so satisfying to put them into practice during bouts. While it might sound like a cliché, fencing really does feel like a game of physical chess! As I get better and learn more, I'm getting really excited about the sport and hope to compete someday.

Fencing is a unique activity that manages to combine incompatible things. It has all the thrill of a combat sport but is also statistically as safe as golf. Boxing might be more realistic, but I use my brain a lot and prefer to keep it in an unconcussed state. I also appreciate that fencing combines physique-based execution with tactics and strategy. A bout can end 5–1, with the next bout between the same people ending 1–5. Finally, I also think I just look very good in the tailor-made Italian fencing gear!

Fencing is a really safe and fun combat sport with a good balance of physical and mental work. It is very physical and also a surprisingly cerebral sport. It is one of the few sports that can elicit as visceral a reaction to someone coming at you with a weapon which gives me a rush like nothing else. The club provides all the equipment you need to fence which was a huge draw for me at the beginning. The coaches and community were also warm and welcoming to a newbie like myself. There is a great sense of camaraderie at the club with people exchanging strategies and pointers with each other. The location is super convenient if you take public transit or work in the CBD!

I started fencing when I was 43 years old. Initially, that was just an activity I do to inspire my son to continue to fence. Over time, the passion for fencing grew and also I got competitive. I joined Legends and like the club because it is catered to adults. Moreover, the setup is posh and cosy. Also, Legends is very flexible in terms of timing, unlike other clubs where younger fencers always comes first. Since joining and training with Legends, I’ve won 2 Asian Veterans Fencing Championship and recently, the World Masters Games. At Legends, I believe we offer adult beginners the best experience and improvement. The club is focused on adult fencers and we have many veteran fencers that can share our different experiences. Most importantly, it is not just a fencing club, but also a social club for all of us!

I booked a Fencing Trial session with Coach Alvin, and I absolutely don't regret it! I never imagined myself trying fencing, but I was incredibly lucky to stumble upon it through ClassPass. I highly recommend everyone to give it a go! Not only was it a lot of fun, but it also turned out to be quite a workout. The club members are all very welcoming and take the time to explain everything, including techniques and history. On top of that, the club itself is impeccable. It's clean, equipped with lockers and showers, and they even have Aesop products. Absolutely loved it!

Thoroughly enjoyed the fencing trial class here. Perfect for a first timer as we first sat through a few videos as the trainer explained how fencing works. Trainer is very passionate about the sport and taught us from basic footwork.

Joined a fencing session as a team building event. It was interesting to learn about fencing, The instructors were very good and patient at teaching us the basic forms, rules, techniques and keeping an eye out for us newbies. The studio has good equipment and shower facilities to wash up, which is great because it's a sport that has a bit of exertion involved. I had lots of fun! Thanks!

Salleh & Pim both greeted us warmly and facilitated us through the process. Pim was a great coach and made the whole experience enjoyable. We booked on ClassPass and it was our first time fencing for all of us. We got to practice basic drills and tried a few rounds of sparring too! Beginner-friendly. Would recommend

As a veteran age category fencer, I can state that the place, but most of all the people gathering at the club make up a really valuable addition to Singapore's sporting scene. The facilities, the atmosphere, but most of all the camaraderie make every training or sparing session very much enjoyable.
